  • Dr. Hugh Wunderlich

    Dr. Hugh Wunderlich

    PRESIDENT

    Dr. Hugh Wunderlich, DDS, CDE, recently retired from 40 years of general practice in Palm Harbor, Florida. Currently he is the editor of the Florida Dental Association. Dr. Wunderlich has also served as editor of the West Coast District Dental Association and the Florida Section of the International College of Dentists for 30 years. He is a fellow in PFA, ACD, ICD, and was awarded the Gies and the ADA’s Distinguished Editor award. He is an Oxford graduate… OK…his undergraduate degree was from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. He enjoys sailing was his wife multiple times a year.

  • Ann Marie Gothard

    Ann Marie Gothard

    IMMEDIATE PAST PRESIDENT

    A seasoned communications professional, Ann Marie’s experience spans nearly two decades, across a variety of sectors, primarily in health care. Currently, she is Vice President, Global Corporate Media Relations for Henry Schein, Inc., where she leads all strategic media relations for the company and Henry Schein Cares, the company’s global corporate social responsibility program. During her career, Ann Marie has published numerous annual reports and special-interest publications, as well as produced short- and long-form videos that have been recognized for excellence in graphic design, editorial content, and overall communications effectiveness.

  • Dr. Christopher Smiley

    Dr. Christopher Smiley

    PRESIDENT-ELECT

    Dr. Christopher J. Smiley is the immediate past Editor of the Journal of the Michigan Dental Association and serves on its Editorial Advisory board, archiving past issues on ADACommons. The publication was honored in 2021 with the ICD Golden Pen Journalism Award – honorable mention for a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion series. In 2020, Dr. Smiley received the ADA/AADR Evidence-Based Dentistry Practice Award. He is a past chairman of the Dental Quality Alliance and the ADA Council on Dental Benefit Programs and was the lead author of the 2015 ADA systematic review titled “Evidence-based Clinical Practice Guideline on the Nonsurgical Treatment of Chronic Periodontitis by Means of Scaling and Root Planing With or Without Adjuncts” (JADA. 2015;146[7]:525-535). In 2022, he authored a monograph published by JADA+: The Future of Dental Practice Management: Insights Beyond Human Cognition (Why AI?) https://436395.hs-sites.com/jadaplusai/ai-test-post-1-0-0 He was also an ADA Scientific Research Institute ESTR External Review Committee member. He is a past moderator of the ADA EBD Champions Conference and has lectured on Artificial Intelligence in Dentistry, Patient-Centered Care, Evidence-Based Care, Quality Improvement in Health Care, and Coding and dental benefit issues. Chris and his wife, Dr. Colette Smiley, reside in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He retired from general dental practice in September 2023.

  • Dr. Jasmine Shafagh

    Dr. Jasmine Shafagh

    VICE PRESIDENT

    Upon graduation, Dr. Shafagh immediately got involved with her local, The Dental Society of Chester County and Delaware County. She served on the New Dentist Committee and also Co-Chaired DKU – Dentists Keeping Up, the annual CE course program provided for their society. For DKU, she worked to create the program pamphlets, hosted guest speakers and helped moderate the courses. She was also the Editor of the society’s newsletter, The Bulletin, for 6 years, as well as associate editor of The Bulletin Newsletter for the Valley Forge Dental Association, 2nd District of the PDA. She was fortunate and happy to continue this post remotely from Florida since she moved in late 2019. Most recently, she received the Recognition Award from her society for her involvement and contribution as the Bulletin Editor. She was also a recipient of the PDA’s Inaugural 10-under-10 Awards. She was a member of the inaugural class of PDA’s Leadership Academy and is currently a mentor for the Academy, as well as a member of the Communications and Public Relations Advisory Group and the DEIC.

    EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

    Denise started her career as a multi-media specialist and coordinator for General Motors.
    She launched her own design and production company in 1990 and began her involvement with dental publications in 1992. Denise has been a member of AADEJ for 13 years and was AADEJ secretary/treasurer for 3 years. Although her business concentrates on dental publications, she covers a wide range of creative services from branding to promotional and display projects. She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan with a major in Advertising.

  • Daniel Orr

    Dr. Daniel Orr II

    EDITOR-IN-CHIEF

    Daniel L. Orr II, BS, DDS, MS (anesthesiology), PhD, JD, MD, is an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon (OMS), Dentist Anesthesiologist (DA), and attorney practicing in Las Vegas, Nevada. He is the father of 9 children. Dr. Orr is a Diplomate of the American Board of OMS, the American Board of Legal Medicine, American Dental Board of Anesthesiology, the National Dental Board of Anesthesiology, and an Anesthesiology Accreditation Visitor for CODA. He is admitted to the CA Bar and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and is a Past President of the American College of Legal Medicine. Dr. Orr is the Editor of the Nevada Dental Association Journal, a Past President of the American Association of Dental Editors and Journalists, is a member of several editorial boards and peer reviews articles for JOMS, JADA, OOO, JDE, JACD, JLM, and others. Dr. Orr was named 1968 Eagle Scout of the Year by the Los Angeles Area Council and in 1993 was awarded the Silver Beaver by the Boulder Dam Area Council.
