It is the desire of the College to encourage and recognize improvement and excellence in Dental Journalism by sponsoring these awards. The award categories are separated by budget and size so that both small and large publications can equally be considered for an award.
International College of Dentists Journalism Awards, USA Section
ICD holds an Annual Journalism Awards competition. The competition is open to all publications published in English. You may enter as many categories as you would like. However, please send a separate entry form and the publication for each entry. All entries must have been published in the year prior to the award year (for instance, in 2017 for the 2018 award)..
The Silver Scroll Award
The Silver Scroll is awarded to the editor whose publication demonstrated the most overall improvement over the prior year of publication. Both present and past issues of this publication must be submitted for consideration for this award.
The Golden Pen Award
This award is presented to the editor of a publication that contains an article or series of articles in its publication year that is of current importance to the dental profession. Editorials are not included in this award category.
Special Citation Award
This award is presented to the editor whose publication demonstrates an unusual concept, presentation or other distinctive quality. All entries are considered for this award.
The Platinum Pencil Award
This award is given to the editor whose publication demonstrated outstanding, creative and effective use of graphics, illustrations and design.
This award is given to the editor of a newsletter which demonstrates an overall quality of graphics, design and content.
Article or Editorial on Leadership
An award will be presented to the author for the most outstanding article or editorial that encourages dentists to become involved in leadership positions and/or other activities within their profession.
This award is presented to the editor for originality used in graphics and design for covers of dental publications.
The publications are classified by the information provided on the entry form to allow all sizes of publications a chance to win an award.
This category comprises those publications that have a combination of staff help, a large budget, and large circulation.
This category comprises those publications that have little or no staff help with a small to medium budget and circulation.
